Patrick
E.J. Rottiers was introduced to Apple Computer Inc®. in 1983, working
on a broadcast multimedia project for radio and television
on the “ABC of the computer”.
Their paths have crossed ever since and between Europe,
Africa, USA, Patrick E.J. Rottiers was rarely seen
without his Mac, a reliable
business partner, creative
studio and communication centre.
With Apple®, Compugraphic® and Unisys®,
Patrick pioneered the first direct modem connection
links between a DTP network, running Aldus PageMaker® and Omnis® databases,
for the in-house advertising and packaging department
to the printer’s RIPs. This novel development allowed the company
to transfer all printing content in the 5 original
languages, avoiding costly re-typing and re-composing
material.
DTP , system integration and telecommunication
proved to be the major pillars of the computer explosion
in the last decennia.
A professional nomad, in 1991
Patrick made the visionary switch to laptop computers,
for both business and portable computing.
Today’s Powerbooks turn
out the de facto standard in mobile digital video & audio around
the world and are used by the largest broadcast organisations in the
world.
